Editing Services

Choosing an editor is very personal. I obsess over my authors; I want you to succeed as much as you do!  Every project has a special place in my heart.

There are many types of editing to choose from depending on where you are in the project and it is essential to find the right editor and the right service for you. Pricing is going to vary depending on the level of services you require for the project, please contact me for details!

Before our first project together I will review a few chapters of your work in progress, provide a sample of my work, and an outline of how I can help.  I want you to be comfortable handing over your sweat, blood, and tears and I want you to trust that I will take care of this new creation like it is my favorite thing on earth!

I generally use Chicago Manual Style 17th edition and Merriam Webster as the accepted references for fiction.  I do have extensive experience in APA 6th edition, if requested in this format. I'm also fluent in Urban Dictionary and Green's Dictionary of Slang for those wishing to use more colorful English in their work.   I can edit in both British and American English, my Canadian also shows sometimes.

Editing services are all-in for the service chosen, you will never be charged extra for proofreading, "last look", or "final check".  You will never be charged for extra reads, all services include multiple revisions and reads.

Developmental Editing

Developmental editing (sometimes called structural or substantive editing) takes the overall vision and direction of the book and supports the author through the writing process.

For completed manuscripts, developmental editing takes into account the overall story; ensuring that the structure and voice are consistent, point of view including dialogue and syntax are consistent, plot lines are complete, and identifies any gaps in the structure or plot of the story.

For both completed work and works in progress, developmental editing ensures that content flows between chapters, relevance and necessity of paragraphs or chapters in the story's context.

Developmental editing may involve changing or ordering scenes, altering point of view, and rewriting; all with the support of the editor.

Style Editing

Style editing looks at the expression and voice of the work. The focus is on world building, engaging dialogue, and connecting what the reader may envision with what the author intended.

Tone, voice, context, and flow are all considered in this level of editing.

Most often, style editing is done when the manuscript is complete.  A style guide is created that will carry over through a series or trilogy as needed.

Copy Editing

Copy editing looks primarily at fact checking, word choice, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

Focus in this stage is to ensure that the voice of the author is clear and that the words reflect the intent of the scene or content.

Phrase overuse, sticky words, and awkward sentences or dialogue are highlighted for you.

Many factors contribute to the pricing of editing services.  I am happy to provide a sample of my work and a quote for any editing project with a complete explanation of services customized to meet your needs.

Prices are flexible depending on the project. I charge by the book, not the word or hour.  Before we start a project you will know exactly how much editing costs. Editing services start as low as $150.

All editing services include proofreading.

We have special rates for new authors (never published) and trilogy/series book pricing.
